Properly funding our schools

With more children in good or outstanding schools since 2010, we now need fairer school funding so every child gets a good education. I met headteachers and the Education Secretary to call for Devon to get a further £27 million to bring it into line with inner cities.

Each child in Devon receives £304 less than the national average in per pupil funding, meaning that Devon misses out on £27 million per year. I co-signed an f40 campaign letter to the Chancellor as Devon is one of the worst-funding education authorities in the country.

It is welcome news that secondary schools will be given a minimum of £5,000 per pupil from next year, while primary schools will receive a minimum of £4,000 per pupil from the year after.
