As a result 80 people were killed and 600 injured during violent protests that followed.

Hugo Swire backs restoration project for Topsham's Vigilant

Exmouth Journal Those restoring the Thames barge Vigilant at Topsham Quay have received a boost after East Devon MP Hugo Swire gave his backing to the project. Volunteers have been working on Vigilant in the town since late 2012, and are now seeking funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the next stage of the work.

New era of animal care at Devon college

Environment Minister visits Sidmouth to see threat posed by cliff erosion

Express & EchoTHE Government’s Environment Minister has seen for himself the threat to Sidmouth posed by cliff erosion on a visit to the town this month. During his visit, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, MP Owen Paterson met cliff top residents who have lost several meters of their garden due to erosion in recent years.
