Hugo to step down as MP at the next general election

At a meeting earlier this evening of the Executive of the East Devon Conservative Association I announced that I would not be standing for re-election as the Member of Parliament. It was my original intention to stand down in 2022, when the next general election was scheduled to be held.

I have consistently voted in Parliament to get us out of the EU to respect the Referendum result – the largest democratic mandate in history – as well as keep all options on the negotiating table.

Government announces fairer education funding for Devon

East Devon will finally start to see fairer funding for our schools, so that every child gets a superb education. 

Secondary schools will be given a minimum of £5,000 per pupil by 2020-21, while primary schools will receive £4,000 per pupil by 2021-22.

Hugo welcomes more money to protect our marine species

Hugo commented: "I am pleased to see the Chancellor has pledged another £30 million for biodiversity, including an expansion of our Blue Belt programme. This is a vital part of our campaign to protect precious marine species like turtles, whales and seahorses".
