A challenge to the new East Devon District Council

Today (Wednesday 17th July 2019), East Devon MP Sir Hugo Swire has called on the newly constituted East Devon District Council to review its plans for the expansion of Cranbrook.

Following a significant volume of letters and emails from the residents of Cranbrook, Whimple and surrounding areas, Hugo has issued three separate asks of the local authority:

  1. Halt plans to expand Cranbrook south of the London Road B3174;
  2. Concentrate on delivering a proper town centre for Cranbrook with some iconic buildings; and
  3. Spread Gypsy and Traveller sites fairly across East Devon.

East Devon’s MP Sir Hugo Swire said: “Now that we have a district council led by independent councillors, I shall be watching their performance with close interest. These are the same people who have been critical of the Conservative-led council and I, like others, will be interested to see if they can make the change from criticising to delivering for the people of East Devon”.
