Hugo asks PM for message to the people of Hong Kong

At Prime Minister's Questions, Hugo called on Theresa May to send a clear message to the people of Hong Kong as the ongoing situation worsens.

On social media, Hugo said: "At PMQs, I called on the Prime Minister to send a clear message to the people of Hong Kong at what is a difficult time".

HS: What message does the Prime Minister have for the people of Hong Kong at this difficult time?

PM: I thank my RHF for raising issue. I have been shocked as I am sure members from across the House have been to see the scenes on Monday and the use of violence at the Legislative Council. The vast majority of the 100,000s who marched did so peacefully and lawfully. I think this week’s anniversary of the handover of HK is a reminder of the importance of the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Joint Declaration. It is vital that HK’s high degree of autonomy and the rights and freedoms set down by the Sino-British declaration are respected. I have raised my concerns directly with Chinese leaders as has the Foreign Secretary and other ministers, and we will continue to do so.
