Hugo calls on Government to cut Air Passenger Duty for UK domestic flights

East Devon MP Sir Hugo Swire called on the Government to cut Air Passenger Duty for UK domestic flights.

APD is in effect charged twice, with the UK rate comparatively punitive compared with other major European nations.

In Treasury Oral Questions in Parliament, Hugo said more should be done to ensure FlyBe can have a bright future.

FlyBe employs 1,000 staff at Exeter Airport and accounts for 2/3s of its air traffic. Roughly 75 per cent of all of FlyBe's flights are UK domestic.

The beleaguered airline has recently been put up for sale, prompting interest from Virgin Atlantic and BA-owner International Airlines Group.
