Conservative candidate Sir Hugo Swire has praised the Filo Project - a local provider of high quality day care for people living with dementia.
This comes after Sir Hugo met a Filo Project group in Exmouth on Friday 28 April.
The Filo Project offers high quality day care for older people experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia. Situated in an intimate home setting in the community sessions are bespoke to the preferences, personalities and capacities of the individuals within each group. Significantly the group size means that all can hear and engage with each other, no one gets left out and quality social interaction occurs.
Commenting, Sir Hugo said:
‘The Filo Project provides a crucial service to those who could otherwise be socially isolated. Too many people living with dementia feel detached from their community and this wonderful initiative helps to remedy this.
‘Importantly, the Filo Project also provides respite for husbands, wives, sons and daughters who are effectively full-time carers.
‘It was evidently clear from the short time I spent with the group in Exmouth that the Filo Project makes an enormous difference to their lives. I’m sure without this service the challenge of living with dementia would be so much harder for them’.
